Laurel Burch Inspired Cats

Picture
This project came at the end of a unit on the Elements of Art  focusing on Color, Line, Shape and Pattern.

After being introduced to the artwork of Laurel Burch the students practiced drawing cats in her style and then chose one to use for a final drawing.  Lines were added to the cat and the background to create patterns.  Sharpies were used to fill in shapes and develop patterns.  Colored pencils or markers were used to add color to either the cat or the background to create contrast.

Learning concepts:  color, line, pattern, contrast

Patterned cats inspired by Laurel Burch's
"Fantastic Felines"
