Wire People

I begin this project with an observation and discussion of the human figure after showing the class a Mr Potato head versus a replica of a human skeleton.  Then we discuss proper proportion and limb placement.  I model how to make the wire "stick figure" and we make them together.  When the figures are finished the students complete their sculpture using colored wire, pipe cleaners,  foil and paper to create hair, clothing and accessories.  The sculptures can be attached to a wood base using a heavy duty staple gun. The finished sculptures are bendable and could be used to continue a lesson on gesture or body language.
Learning concepts: line, form, gesture, proportion
